Sumatra has just been hit by one of the worst storms in its history. Floods and landslides tore through the forest, isolating tigers in areas with no way to escape. Some may have been injured. Some may have drowned. One young elephant was swept for kilometres by the rushing water - a heartbreaking sign of how powerful and deadly the floods were for all wildlife.

Now the danger is far from over. Tiger habitat has been destroyed. Affected communities will turn to poaching and illegal logging to overcome financial loss. Our restoration nurseries that were helping repair the forest have been washed away. Patrol posts have gone. And tigers forced out of flooded forest are dangerously close to villages - where fear and conflict can turn deadly in an instant.
