How your support is educating the next generation of conservationists.
In the heart of West Sumatra, the APE Protector (tiger) team is doing more than just patrolling the forest—they’re planting seeds of change in the minds of the next generation. Thanks to your generous donations, the team has been able to visit schools in remote forest communities, inspiring young students to become environmental guardians.
During their visits, the team educates children about the Critically Endangered Sumatran tiger and the importance of preserving its habitat. Through interactive sessions and storytelling, they explain how these majestic creatures play a vital role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. But most importantly, they empower students to take action, showing them how their daily choices can help protect the tigers and their forest home.
Outdoor activities add a fun yet meaningful element, as students take part in games like “Habitat Rope,” which illustrates the impact of habitat loss on wildlife. As the rope symbolising tiger territory grows smaller, students acting as wildlife have to compete for space—just as animals do when forests are destroyed. The lesson is clear: without preserving habitat, species like the Sumatran tiger face a grim future.
As well as visiting schools, students are also encouraged to visit the Sumatran Tiger Information Centre (RIHAS) in Rimbo Panti. Open to the public on weekends, this Centre allows students and locals to learn more about ongoing conservation efforts and how they can contribute to the cause.
By supporting these educational outreach efforts, you’re not only helping to protect tigers today but also nurturing the future guardians of the forest—young people who will carry forward the mission of conservation for years to come. Together, we’re planting the seeds of conservation that will ensure a future where the Sumatran tiger thrives.
