Her name is Puti Batuah – a female Sumatran tiger, less than one year old.
In West Sumatra, Puti Batuah’s forest home is shrinking. As forests are cut down, tigers lose their food, shelter and safety. With nowhere left to go, tigers like Puti Batuah are pushed closer to human villages, putting both themselves, and local communities at risk.
When tigers and people come into conflict, it rarely ends well. Communities act to protect their families, their farms, and their livestock. And tigers pay the price with their lives.
With less than 300 Sumatran tigers remaining, every single life matters.
That’s where you’re making a difference. Your support means that tigers stand a chance. From removing snares, patrolling forests and moving tigers to safer forests – your kindness is the difference between life and death for tigers like Puti Butuah.
Because when Puti Batuah needed help, you were there.
She was spotted roaming close to three different villages, and had several scary encounters with local residents. Thanks to your support, our teams were ready to act, and rushed straight to her rescue. They spoke with communities, assessed the area, and made a plan to keep both Puti Butuah and people safe.
After careful consideration, the team decided the best thing for her safety was to relocate her to a safer forest. Relocation is always a last resort. It’s a big operation, with real risks to the tiger and our team. But for Puti Batuah, it’s the best chance at survival in the wild.
Our team placed a crate deep in the forest to help bring her to safety. After careful observation to make sure she was healthy, Puti Butuah was transferred to Kandi Wildlife Park, where vets and wildlife specialists are watching over her closely.

Once a safe release site is confirmed, she’ll have a final health check, before being released back into the wild. Until then, your kindness is giving her the care, food, and medicine she needs for a safe return to the forest.
